Intro： Pearl EarringIn the summer of 1920, floods ravaged the four counties of Wenling, Zhejiang, and beyond. In such chaotic times of disaster, some sought to profit from the calamity while others sought to survive. Yanzhi was a kind-hearted female locksmith who, in order to survive, escaped the famine to Suzhou with her adoptive father. Yanzhi was skilled and showed the robust, clever, hard-working, and honest characteristics of a streetwise girl, and she possessed excellent lock repair and opening skills. Yanzhi believed that she and her adoptive father would live a life free of worries in Suzhou. However, one day Yanzhi was falsely accused and sentenced to be executed by firing squad in 36 days. During her escape, she was shot and lost consciousness, waking up to find herself in the room of a noble lady in the north. Confused and with many questions, she eventually discovered that her biological sister had colluded with foreigners to transport the town's ores overseas for profit, intending to use her as a substitute. Yanzhi absorbed a great deal of knowledge and ideas about Marxism from the progressive youth Qian Zhongjie. She believed that these ores were the resources of the town and the country and must not be plundered by outsiders. In the end, Yanzhi persuaded her sister to turn back to the right path, and together they contributed to protecting the resources of their town.
