Intro: The South and the NorthMargaret (played by Daniela Denby-Ashe), who grew up in the picturesque countryside of southern England, relocates with her family to the completely unfamiliar northern town of Milton after her father, a clergyman, resigns from his job. Unlike the warm comfort of the south, Milton, during the Industrial Revolution, is cold and chaotic. The roads are no longer lined with fragrant flowers but are instead populated by rough workers and cotton flying from the textile mills. Along with her struggles to adapt to this new environment, the domineering presence of the young industrialist John Thornton (played by Richard Armitage), the owner of the mill, and his harsh treatment of the workers, leaves Margaret with an incredibly negative first impression of him. As Margaret immerses herself deeper into life in Milton, she gradually comes to understand the tenderness and suffering behind the workers’ rough exteriors, firmly standing by their side. In contrast, the employer Thornton is captivated by Margaret at first sight, but his inability to express himself seems to push her further away. The two are like the south and the north, completely opposite yet tightly connected...
