Two thousand years ago in China, under the tyrannical rule of the Qin king, the feudal lords revolted. Beyond the bloody and stormy battlefield lay city-states established deep within dense forests. Xiang Yu (played by Daniel Wu) and Liu Bang (played by Liu Ye), two uprising leaders opposing the tyranny of Qin, lead their respective forces to fight for freedom and peace, simultaneously advancing toward the core of the dynasty that symbolizes supreme power and unlimited wealth—the Qin Palace. The course of history is always long and ambiguous, but the outcome is singular: the brave and impulsive overlord Xiang Yu misses the chance to kill Liu Bang at the 'Banquet at Hongmen' and can only spill his hot blood at Wu River, bidding a tearful farewell to his beloved woman, Yu Ji (played by He Dujuan). Liu Bang and his Empress Lü (played by Qin Lan), along with his strategists Han Xin (played by Zhang Zhen), Zhang Liang (played by Qi Dao), and Xiao He (played by Sha Yi), endure humiliation and fight to the last, ultimately becoming the rulers of the splendid palace. In that luxurious mansion, the emperor Liu Bang seems to have already forgotten the days of fighting alongside former allies, and gradually begins to suspect those around him. Another wave of slaughter thus begins to silently spread within the towering walls of the empire...
