During the Korean War, Major General Li (played by Li Yan) of a volunteer army unit received orders from higher up and led the troops to the enemy's front line to wait for an opportunity to attack the frontal enemy alongside allied forces. Upon reaching the designated location, reconnaissance revealed that three sides of the enemy's front line were mined, with only an open area directly in front. Major General Li ordered Deputy Colonel Cui Kai (played by Yu Chunmian) to lead a team to lie in ambush. Before setting off, a comfort team from the motherland visited the front-line commanders and soldiers. Major General Li unexpectedly discovered that Team Leader Mei (played by Hu Zihui) of the comfort team was actually the widow of an old comrade-in-arms, and her son Ding Dayong (played by Zhang Liang) was among those in the ambush team that was set to depart. Major General Li wanted Ding Dayong to stay back with his mother, but she insisted that he go to the front line and urged her son to strike hard against the enemy.
