Zatoichi, who set off on a journey to pray for the first sunrise of Fuji, severely injured five yakuza who attacked him on the way with quick skills in an instant. Once their wounds healed, the five men set out in pursuit of Ichi. At that time, Ichi was enjoying a boat trip to Enoshima, but upon discovering that there was cheating gambling aboard, he turned the tables and skillfully extorted a large sum of money. There, Ichi encountered the unruly ronin Jummon Kyu, who loved shogi. Upon arriving at Enoshima, Ichi was summoned by the captain of the cheaters, Ejimaya, and surrounded by drawn swords, but with his skilled quick moves, Ejimaya and his crew fled. However, during this commotion, Miki, the daughter of a passing street performer, Otane, was injured. The wound worsened and developed into tetanus. Feeling responsible, Ichi used the skill of ten mon tataki that he inherited from Jummon to gather money to buy the effective medicine for tetanus, known as Namban-dori. Thanks to the medicine Ichi provided, Miki’s wound healed completely. However, while taking Miki for a healing retreat in Hakone, Ichi, through connections from a massage therapy he experienced, met a sick young samurai named Tomonoshin, his sister Kume, and their companion Rokuhira, who were wandering in search of their father's enemy. One night, Rokuhira, the only man who knew the face of the enemy, was killed by a fishing line-like weapon. The next morning, Ichi found Jummon’s favorite bobber floating in Benten Pond, where Rokuhira was murdered. Doubt towards Jummon began to grow. Perhaps sensing this, Jummon also started to show an aura of murderous intent towards Ichi since then. Furthermore, through Tomonoshin’s testimony, Ichi learned that the enemy had a peculiar habit of snapping his fingers when he played shogi, which was unmistakably the same habit Jummon displayed during their shogi games. The next day, Ichi and Jummon departed from the inn with Miki and Otane, whose wounds had healed. As they walked through the winding mountains of Hakone, the two men, each strategizing their shogi moves in their minds, observed the opportunity for confrontation. In an instant, both men drew their swords. However, it was Jummon who fell. Having defeated the pursuing group of five with his signature quick draw, Ichi left the mountain path alone, with the voice of Miki, who was calling for him affectionately from behind.
