Young man Guo Zhenhua (played by Jackie Chan) comes to Hong Kong seeking development, getting caught up in a conflict between two rival gangs when he witnesses injustice. Guo reflects on this strange experience and realizes that it was the Rose Lady (played by Gigi Leung) who brought him good luck, so he always buys roses from her before negotiations or outings to ensure his peace of mind. Guo Zhenhua transforms the gang-owned Lichih Hotel into a nightclub, where the former boss's daughter Yang Luming (played by Anita Mui) performs to pay off debts and becomes a huge success, leading to a romance between Guo and Yang. The Fujian gang, which has long coveted the nightclub business, frequently troubles Guo Zhenhua, who continues to seek luck from the Rose Lady. He unexpectedly discovers that the Rose Lady is in even deeper trouble; she has fabricated a grand identity for the sake of her daughter studying in another city, and she is now facing exposure. Out of gratitude, Guo helps the Rose Lady maintain her lie, leading to a series of comedic situations.
