However, the war was not as he imagined—there was no glory, no fairness. It was brutal and painful. As the war took the lives of his father and brothers, Arthur was now completely alone. Moreover, the Russian army showed no progress in their promise to quickly resolve the war and return home on time. Only he cared about going home; his homeland was just a playground for other countries. With this perspective, Arthur found strength for the final battle and eventually returned home to start anew, just like his newly born country.
