Maruyama Shimako (played by Junko Miyashita), an office lady working at Gotou Shoe Factory, is a regular at the home of the factory manager, Gotou Junichirou (played by Junichiro Yamashita). She shares a close and harmonious relationship with the manager's wife, Kazuko (played by Aoi Nakajima), and their youngest daughter, Akemi (played by Sari Hamamura). However, what Kazuko doesn't realize is that Shimako has been engaged in an affair with her husband for a long time. Shimako is determined to replace Kazuko as the mistress of the house, and she has undergone two abortions for Junichirou to achieve this goal. Yet, Junichirou is unwilling to leave his wife or end his romance with Shimako. Gradually, Shimako grows tired of this relationship and unexpectedly encounters a young man, Yano Hiroshi (played by Nobuyasu Ando), with whom she quickly falls in love. However, Yano has another girlfriend, Kazama Tokiko (played by Akihime). Neither woman is willing to back down, and the three then begin a twisted living arrangement.
