The story of 'The Flood' is set between 1925 and 1927, focusing on five aspiring young brothers: Nie Tianhong, Sun Jingshu, Gong Jianshou, Han Dongshui, and Yang De. Their emotional and striving stories, both inside and outside the military academy, reflect the turbulent youth and life choices of a generation of passionate young people in the flow of time. They later undergo the baptism and severe tests of events such as the Nanchang Uprising and the Guangzhou Uprising. Ultimately, due to differing beliefs, the five brothers part ways, with Sun Jingshu and Han Dongshui taking different life paths from Gong Jianshou.
