The Cybertronian civil war rages on, and in a moment of crisis, Optimus Prime sends Bumblebee to Earth to await the opportunity to re-establish a base. Subsequently, Bumblebee lands in California in 1987, only to be hunted down by Agent Jack Burns (played by John Cena) and is severely beaten by a pursuing Decepticon, losing both his voice and memory in the process. Meanwhile, rebellious teenager Charlie Watson (played by Hailee Steinfeld) accidentally encounters Bumblebee, who has transformed into a Volkswagen Beetle. They cautiously test each other and eventually become very close friends, while also getting into a fair share of amusing situations. However, the pleasant times are short-lived as Decepticon members Shatter and Dropkick chase after Bumblebee to Earth. They first deceive the U.S. government into trusting them and use satellite networks to locate Bumblebee, then they attempt to summon the Decepticon army here. As Bumblebee gradually recovers his memory, he is determined to protect his new friend and this beautiful blue planet all on his own...
