Lieutenant Tucker (played by Dennis Quaid) is impulsive and disdains authority, but he is also the main pilot of the 'Alpha Project', which develops miniaturized flying technology. After a drunken escapade causes his reporter girlfriend Lydia (played by Meg Ryan) to angrily leave him, his work encounters setbacks as well— a gang of thieves breaks into the research center, attempting to steal the miniaturized flying chip currently under development. To save the chip, the researchers inject Tucker, who has already shrunk, along with the flying device, into the backside of a bystander named Jack (played by Martin Short), a neurotic supermarket cashier. As Tucker navigates inside Jack's body, he helps him evade the pursuing thieves and returns to the research center for help. However, the center decides to abandon Tucker inside Jack for profit, leaving the two of them with no choice but to save themselves. They turn to Lydia for help, aiming to retrieve the stolen chip before Tucker runs out of oxygen and returns to his original size.
