Raised in the pastoral fields, Hidetaka (voiced by Tomokazu Sugita) is determined to come to Tokyo for a cram school after being disheartened by his failure to enter a university there. On the streets of Tokyo, Hidetaka notices the prevalence of humanoid computers, which are incredibly popular in this era. They have beautiful appearances that are indistinguishable from humans, and their skin feels soft to the touch. As a poor student, Hidetaka wishes to own one, but due to its high price, he can only admire them from afar. One night, on his way back to his apartment, Hidetaka discovers a humanoid computer in the form of a girl among the trash. He carries it home and, upon turning it on, he inadvertently changes his life. The awakened humanoid computer can only emit a sound like "chi," so Hidetaka names her Chi (voiced by Rie Tanaka). Under Hidetaka's guidance, Chi gradually grows like an infant, allowing him to discover her differences from other humanoid computers. Chi develops feelings for Hidetaka due to her own consciousness, separate from computer programming, but the complex situation of a machine and a human body leads them to hesitate. Besides Hidetaka and Chi, there are other stories of people and humanoid computers, some sad, some moving, creating pure and heartfelt stories in this high-tech era.
