Engineer Heinrich Schmidt was seriously injured in the incident; he knew the leak would contaminate underground water for hundreds of miles and hoped to warn the public. However, his boss was only concerned with self-preservation and believed the truth of the incident should be covered up, even at the cost of thousands of lives. Heinrich escaped from the facility but was too injured to get far. He became lost in the forest and suffered from amnesia until he was rescued by Larry, a mechanic on vacation with his wife Carmel. Just as Heinrich was struggling to piece together his memories, his boss's thugs quickly cornered the three of them.
