This time, Holmes has a formidable opponent – Professor Moriarty (played by Jared Harris), who is intellectually on par with him. In order to thoroughly investigate the crown prince's suicide, Holmes teams up with Watson (played by Jude Law) and with the help of the Gypsy astrologer Sim (played by Noomi Rapace), they engage in a confrontation with Moriarty across the entire European continent, from England to France, Germany, and beyond. Although Moriarty is called the smartest man, he seems to be able to predict Holmes's movements, always staying one step ahead, allowing him to escape.
