Professor Edward Johnston (played by Billy Connolly) is a historian dedicated to medieval archaeology, and excavating the 14th-century Larloch Castle has been his lifelong dream. However, it is only when Robert (played by David Thewlis), the president of an international technology company, is willing to invest in the project that Johnston's wish finally comes true. He quickly teams up with his son Chris (played by Paul Walker) to form an archaeological team to go to France and explore the ancient battlefield. During a routine excavation, the team discovers a distress letter dated 1357, signed by Professor Johnston, and they also find the professor's glasses nearby, but they have been there for more than 600 years. Confused, the team reaches out to investor Robert and learns that the ambitious Robert secretly invented a time machine capable of sending people back to 1357 through a wormhole. Faced with this terrifying yet miraculous tool, Chris decides to lead the team back to the Middle Ages to save his father. However, none of them can predict what awaits them on the other side of the wormhole... This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by American author Michael Crichton.
