The story is based on a real murder case that shocked the United States in 1981, where the killer, Arne Cheyenne Johnson, claimed he was possessed by an evil spirit after killing his landlord. This case became the first in American history where a defendant used "demonic possession" as a defense, hence it is called the "Demon Murder Case." An 11-year-old boy, David, was reportedly possessed by spirits and fell into a chaotic state, often seeing monstrous demons sitting in his favorite rocking chair, along with bizarre wounds appearing on his body. In fear and helplessness, his family called in the Warrens for an investigation, who discovered that David was haunted by 43 demons, leading to abnormal behaviors such as crawling on the ground like a beast, speaking in tongues, and even reciting passages from the Bible and "Paradise Lost" that he had never read. The Warrens arranged for a priest to perform an exorcism on David, but there was no improvement. Strangely, David's sister's fiancé, Arne, also started exhibiting unusual behaviors. Months later, Arne fatally stabbed the landlord with a knife. The Warrens believed that Arne was possessed by an evil spirit when he committed the murder, and it turned out that he was present during David's exorcism.
