Brandon (played by John Dall) and Philip (played by Farley Granger) are both brilliant students at Harvard. One day, the two of them, who are also gay, conspire to murder their classmate David and hide his body in a large trunk. Perhaps out of a desire to boast, they make a shocking move. They use the trunk containing David's body as a dining table and invite David's parents, fiancée, classmates, and Professor Rupert (played by James Stewart) to a banquet.
