The story takes place in the 1970s Bollywood, where Om (played by Shahrukh Khan) is a hugely popular actor. It turns out that in his previous life, Om was an obscure little actor deeply infatuated with the then top actress, Shree (played by Deepika Padukone). In a twist of fate, he rescued Shree from a dangerous situation engulfed in flames. However, Shree later fell in love with a screenwriter, who turned out to be a cruel man. Not only did he manipulate Shree, but he also caused the death of Om in his past life. Remembering all of this, Om decides to search for Shree's reincarnation.
