This film is adapted from the bestselling novel by American author Dan Brown. Scientist Victoria Vitrac (played by Ayelet Zurer) from the European Nuclear Center, along with her father, collected antimatter during a high-speed particle collider experiment, only to discover that her father was murdered, his body branded with the Illuminati symbol on his chest. The highly explosive antimatter has been stolen and is now threatening the safety of the Vatican and all of Rome, as it appears at the time of the selection of a new Pope. Meanwhile, four key cardinal candidates mysteriously disappear. Under the direction of the Pope's chamberlain (played by Ewan McGregor), Professor Robert Langdon, a Harvard symbologist, and Victoria are summoned to the Vatican to assist the Roman police in their search.
