Based on the award-winning book "Toast: The Story of a Boy's Hunger" by British national treasure food writer Nigel Slater, it combines childhood memories with his deep love for food, appearing on the big screen. Young Nigel Slater (played by Oscar Kennedy) has a mother who was never a good cook, unable even to make simple soup; the family of three often ate toast.
