The story is set in a modern world where "spiritual disasters" frequently occur and onmyoji are active. Sixteen-year-old high school student Tohomine Haruhiko (voiced by Ishikawa Kaito) is born into the Tohomine family, a prestigious lineage of onmyoji. Despite his noble heritage, he has terrible luck and no talent, believing he is unsuitable to be an onmyoji, spending each day aimlessly with his friend Winter (voiced by Kimura Ryohei). His childhood friend, Tohomine Natsume (voiced by Hanazawa Kana), is the heir to the Tohomine family, possessing exceptional talent, a serious demeanor, and a strong sense of responsibility to protect her family. During the summer vacation, Natsume returns from Tokyo. Soon after, one of the "Twelve Divine Generals," a prodigy named Daianji Suzuka, triggers the "Taishan Lord Festival" incident. In the chaotic battle, Haruhiko loses his friend Hokuto and, reflecting on his pain, decides to become Natsume's shikigami and return to the path of an onmyoji.
