Alice (played by Heather Graham) and Klaus (played by Ulrich Thomsen) are in a marriage that has lost its meaning. By chance, she meets a rough-and-tumble man named Adam (played by Joseph Fiennes), and the two quickly fall in love, becoming dependent on one another from physical desire to emotional reliance. Consequently, Alice finally confronts her husband, and Klaus, who has been kept in the dark, erupts in fury, leading to their divorce. Later, Alice learns from her best friend that Klaus has never gotten over her, and she feels a twinge of regret. However, she is furious to discover that her ex-husband is living with her friend. Alice accepts Adam's marriage proposal. Yet, she still harbors concerns about his volatile temper. Fortunately, her sister Deborah (played by Natascha McElhone) helps to calm her down, and Alice gradually finds peace. In their conversations, she sees photos of Adam rock climbing in the snow-capped mountains and unexpectedly uncovers her husband's hidden secrets...
