This is a story that takes place in a Hong Kong opera troupe in the 1980s. The mischievous martial artist Ah Gui (played by Dong Wei) often dresses up as a ghost to scare people, even teasing the troupe's leading actress, Xin Shaojia. Everyone is both furious and helpless against him. This time, when Ah Gui scares people as a ghost again, he unexpectedly encounters a real ghost—the Chaozhou ghost. Ah Gui is so scared that he loses control. Fortunately, the old master Sheng Shushu (played by Lam Cheng Ying) from the troupe has rich experience in this matter. He learns that the Chaozhou ghost was dismembered while alive, and that its restless spirit remains after death. To allow the Chaozhou ghost to rest in peace, Shushu and Ah Gui decide to find the ghost's body. However, they mistakenly dig up the body of another evil ghost, and soon the troupe is thrown into chaos by this malevolent spirit. Shushu decides to team up with Ah Gui to dress up as a Taoist priest to scare away the evil ghost.
