  • intro:This film (don't confuse it with another Carol Baker work, Kiss Me, Kill Me, also known as Baba Yagi - The Witch) is another work by Umberto Renzi after his groundbreaking classic "Particid".It was released the same year as Dario Argintu's Crystal Feather Bird (which opened the torrent of Italian gialli) and was produced by the Martino brothers who later made many interesting giallo movies (usually featuring Edvig Feneck, the charming mistress of Eugenio Martino). The film starring Carol Baker, who plays a role in the film that is completely opposite to the innocent victim she plays in Paranoia, shows her acting skills, which also features two excellent native European actors – Jean Louis Trantinian and the beautiful Erica Blanke. The script is surprisingly well written, full of suspense and real surprises. This is a clever adaptation of the French classic film The Devil, which includes a decadent upper class husband (Tretinian), wife (Blank) and mistress (Baker), who deceive and betray each other. It cleverly takes advantage of the audience’s awareness of early films and then adds to an unexpected turning point. The movie seems to be very well made, too.(It's hard to believe that in years, Renzi would make a disgusting, botchy cannibal movie like The Cannibal Ferrox, or a botchy American horror movie like The Hiker in the Dark). However, I say "seems" because the movie is only released on the second or third generation Greek video tapes that are not only pan and scanned, but are so bad that the characters are often outside the half of the screen.Appreciating this movie is like appreciating a beautiful painting, but both sides are cut off, covered with very blurry cellophane (and engraved Greek subtitles). If Renzi's bad movies, such as Ferox, Hitcher, and even the Eaten Alive that God bless us all, can get star DVD treatment, why can't Paranoia or this little treasure?Oh, but I almost forgot – despite the title, there isn’t much anomaly here.Baker has more nude scenes in Paranoia. There are some nude shots related to Blank (although in my opinion you will never get tired of it), but unfortunately the lesbian relationship between the two of them is just a hint.Of course, it might just be cut...
