Intro One of the leaders of the resistance movement, Jebier, killed a German guard and escaped from the international concentration camp. Soon, Jebier went to England to receive an award from General de Gaulle, but after learning that his temporary replacement, Felix, had been captured, he took a flight back home overnight to rescue him. After many twists and turns, they never managed to save their comrade. Felix and his close friend Francois committed suicide by poison in prison. Later, Jebier was also captured, and Mathilde meticulously planned to rescue him. However, during Jebier's recovery, Mathilde was caught and was coerced by the enemy to betray her comrades using her daughter as a hostage; in the end, she was shot dead by her comrades. The characters in this film differ from the heroic figures in romantic works; although they fight for collective and national interests, they also yield to emotional weaknesses and personal motives. The film has a profound tone and heavy colors, realistically portraying the harsh and brutal fighting life of the French underground resistance during World War II.
