Jack Taylor (played by Sean Faris) blames himself for his father's accidental death, leading to uncontrolled emotions and a very tense relationship with his mother. Compared to his younger brother, a tennis star who achieves early success, the combative Jack is seen by his mother as nothing but trouble. With his brother receiving a large scholarship, Jack and the family move to Orlando, Florida. Although Jack intended to start a stable life, he is provoked at a party by local fighting champion Ryan McCarthy (played by Cam Gigandet) and suffers a severe beating in the brawl. To regain his honor, Jack begins training in fighting under coach Gene LeBell, introduced by a classmate. As he trains, Jack's aggressive and combative nature slowly changes; he learns to be patient and control his emotions, and his initial desire for revenge against Ryan transforms as well. However, Ryan doesn't intend to let Jack off easily; a deadly confrontation between them is inevitable.
