The dominating Miao Laoye wants to occupy a singer and has the musician A Chang killed, threatening and bribing the platoon leader to take the corpse out of the city. The seven leave the city and enter the primeval forest, accidentally dropping the body in a sulfur swamp; they decide to continue their erroneous journey and find an inn to rest. That night, one accomplice is murdered, and the villagers spread rumors of a vicious ghost haunting. The platoon leader and the other five gather garlic and other items to exorcise the ghost in the desolate outskirts, but after several encounters in an ancient tomb, they are defeated. After the platoon leader and Ah Ying escape with their lives and return to Ma Xiang Ping to inform Miao Laoye, they learn that the ghost's motive was simply to seek revenge on Miao Laoye. The platoon leader witnesses the Taoist priests failing to battle the ghost, seizes the opportunity to threaten Miao Laoye, and instead gets subdued by him, becoming bait for the decisive battle against the ghost...
