The commander of the 132nd Brigade, Kiyotake Oni, was making a desperate last stand with the help of captured Soviet General Krekhin, which greatly hindered the advance of Soviet troops. To assist in the psychological warfare of the task force, the Soviet Far Eastern Military District assigned Lieutenant Natasha from the intelligence department to the frontline of the fortress. However, her goodwill advice did not compel the stubborn Kiyotake Oni to surrender and instead provoked an intensified barrage of artillery fire from the Japanese. To punish Kiyotake Oni, the Soviet forces unleashed a barrage of shells from over twenty howitzers onto the Dongning Fortress. The roar of cannon fire and the flying flames turned the Japanese bunkers into ruins in the thick smoke. In the face of massive casualties, Kiyotake Oni still could not believe that Japan had surrendered. Consequently, Lieutenant Natasha was ordered to enter the fortress and, accompanied by Zhang Feihu, announced the ceasefire order signed by the Soviet and Japanese armies in front of Kiyotake Oni's bunker. Faced with the last chance for survival, Kiyotake Oni still stubbornly resisted and dispatched a small team to attempt to break through the encirclement from a hidden path in the back mountain. During the battle, Wang Tianxiao was seriously wounded and died in an explosion with the enemy, and his sacrifice infuriated the task force members. With the support of the main Soviet gunfire, Zhang Feihu led the team into the underground works and captured Kiyotake Oni after fierce fighting. Thus, the Far Eastern Task Force completed all reconnaissance missions for the recapture of Northeast China in the decisive battle against Japan, marking a successful conclusion to the final battle of World War II.
