In a rundown corner of Shinjuku, Tokyo, there lives a pair of sisters. The elder sister, Akemi Fukui (played by Setsuko Ohyama), runs a small bar called 'Tulip' while also engaging in the flesh trade, with her lover, Kenji Ozawa (played by Nobutaka Masu), acting as the bar's bodyguard. Akemi's younger sister, nicknamed 'Canary,' is not very intelligent and works for her sister. She maintains her innocent and naive nature, despite the murky background they are in, as she greets customers daily. One day, an unexpected guest bursts into the sisters' lives. After robbing a wealthy family, a young man named Kazuhiko Sakaguchi (played by Toshiaki Karasawa) gets into an argument with Akemi, resulting in him being brutally beaten and thrown out by Ozawa. The next morning, Canary sees the severely injured Sakaguchi and, disregarding Akemi and Ozawa's objections, decides to keep him nearby. The nursery rhymes they sing together help them find a sense of belonging, and thus a peculiar bond begins to develop.
