The tranquil mountain village enters the rainy season. The old lumberjack Kanekiyan (played by Hiroshi Yakusho) is traditional and has a tense relationship with his son. On his way to work, he leads the new director Tanabe Koichi (played by Shun Oguri) from Tokyo and the assistant director, thus getting involved in the outdoor shooting of a zombie movie. After being forced to act as a temporary actor, Kanekiyan develops a subtle interest in the film. He begins to help the production team communicate with the villagers, getting involved in the work and even neglecting his job and the anniversary of his wife's passing. The sudden intrusion of the production team disrupts the tranquility of the mountain village and Kanekiyan's life, and also changes the director Koichi himself. Koichi is shy and lacks confidence, having no authority within the crew. By chance, he discovers that his zombie script is appreciated by Kanekiyan, which greatly encourages him. The two communicate wonderfully during several bath times. With Kanekiyan's help, Koichi slowly builds his confidence, and the film shoot gets back on track. However, just before the final shoot a torrential rain puts the filming in crisis again, and Kanekiyan's absence leaves Koichi in panic… The film won the Jury Prize at the 24th Tokyo International Film Festival. The two leading actors, Hiroshi Yakusho and Shun Oguri, have also taken on directing roles in real life.
