Shahi (played by Sridevi) is an Indian housewife who enjoys making laddus. She has devoted her life entirely to caring for her family, which has caused her to be somewhat out of touch with the times. Shahi, who does not understand English, faces ridicule from her husband and daughter in her daily life, and the decreasing topics of conversation with her family make her feel a sense of crisis. By chance, relatives in the United States invite Shahi to help with their wedding arrangements. To enhance communication with her family and earn their respect and attention, Shahi decides to enroll in an English training class for four weeks in New York to overcome her language barrier. In this training class, Shahi bids farewell to her previously quiet life, meeting various friends who encourage each other to progress towards their common goal of learning English. Hard work pays off, and with diligent study, Shahi goes from having no foundation to shining brightly at the wedding banquet. Her wishes conveyed in English to the newlyweds not only earn her admiration but also help her regain her family's love and respect...
