In 1977, on the thirteenth day of the seventh lunar month, seven children made a deadly vow in an abandoned house, agreeing to meet every year on the fourteenth day of the lunar month. In 1993, on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, a man and woman died mysteriously. Inspector Zhou (played by Zhou Wenjian) and his new partner (played by Lau Ching Wan) were assigned to investigate. During the investigation, they found that the wife of the male victim (played by Tao Dayu), Jia Yi (played by Chen Mingzhen), was the prime suspect, as many of the clues she provided were difficult to explain. The two continued their investigation with Jia Yi, discovering that she was one of the seven children who had made that deadly vow years ago, and the other five who had also made the vow were already dead. As their investigation deepened, they encountered many incredible bizarre occurrences, and everyone associated with her either went missing or was killed. The deadly vow they made in their childhood seemed to be coming true one by one. The film won three nominations at the 13th Hong Kong Film Awards in 1994: Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best New Actor.
