Seeking revenge, Lin Dingbang severed ties with Ma Haotian completely. Years later, when they met again, Ma Haotian had become the chief of police in Fengtian, while Lin Dingbang had secretly joined the Communist Party of China and was one of the leaders of the Manchuria Provincial Committee. On September 18, 1931, the Japanese army invaded China, and the three eastern provinces fell. Ma Haotian turned traitor and stood against the nation and the people.
