The cunning Ximen Qing frames the murder on Wu Dalang's brother, Wu Song (played by Gu Guanzhong), resulting in Wu Song being imprisoned and sent to the border. Meanwhile, Pan Jinlian has secretly fallen for the upright and brave Wu Song and, in order to save her beloved hero, has no choice but to comply with Ximen Qing's various depraved demands, moving into his home and becoming his fifth wife.
