Intro: The Flintstones Season 2"The Flintstones" is an animated, prime-time American television sitcom that aired on the American Broadcasting Company from September 30, 1960, to April 1, 1966. The show was produced by Hanna-Barbera. "The Flintstones" tells the story of a working-class man from the Stone Age and his family, as well as his neighbor and best friend. The long-lasting popularity of the show primarily comes from its juxtaposition of modern-day issues with a Stone Age setting. The show is set in the fictional town of Bedrock. (In some early episodes, it was also referred to as "Rockville.") In this fantastical version of the past, dinosaurs, saber-toothed tigers, mammoths, and other long-extinct animals coexisted with cavemen. Like the mid-20th-century cavemen, these characters listened to records, lived in split-level houses, and dined in restaurants, but their technology was entirely made from pre-industrial materials, primarily powered by animals. For example, cars were made of stone, wood, and animal hides, powered by the feet of passengers (as described in the theme song "Powering Fred's two feet"). The original pilot clip was called "Flagstones" (which first appeared in 1959 as a 90-second promotional teaser to attract advertisers) and was later reinserted into the show's first episode (the third episode in the order of original broadcast dates). Shortly thereafter, the show's name was changed to "The Flintstones."
