The protagonist, Sean (played by Lucas Black), is destined to be a loser; he has no friends at school, and the only place he can vent is through street racing. After being wanted by the police for an illegal race, he is forced to leave the United States to stay with his father, who is serving in the military in Tokyo. However, his father's strictness makes Sean feel out of place, and he continues to immerse himself in street racing.
