This film tells the story of the rise and fall of the German far-left terrorist organization 'Baader-Meinhof Group' in the 1970s. Led by Andreas Baader (played by Moritz Bleibtreu) and Ulrike Meinhof (played by Martina Gedeck), the German anarchist group engaged in far-left terrorism from 1972 onwards. Under the banner of exposing the 'moral corruption' of the German state, the organization sought to create a more humane social system. However, they committed numerous crimes including assassinations, bomb attacks, and kidnappings, using violence to combat violence, causing any semblance of humanity to disappear amidst bloodthirsty acts of terror. The film is based on journalist Stefan Aust's bestselling book from the 1980s and was nominated for several awards, including Best Foreign Language Film at the 81st Academy Awards in 2009, and Best Foreign Language Film at the 66th Golden Globe Awards in 2009, as well as a nomination for Best Actor at the 22nd European Film Awards in 2009.
