Rick (played by Drake Bell), who lives with his uncle and aunt, can be considered a standard example of a down-and-out average Joe. He has a crush on his classmate, the beautiful girl next door, Jill (played by Sara Paxton), but feels he has no chance in front of Jill's arrogant boyfriend, Lance. During a class trip, Rick and his classmates visit an animal gene laboratory, and Rick, who is adept at messing things up, gets bitten by a genetically modified dragonfly, gaining superhuman abilities: an immortal body along with an adhesive nature. Meanwhile, Lance's uncle, Landis (played by Christopher McDonald), who controls a medical center, is ramping up the development of human gene modification technology. Suffering from a terminal illness, Landis uses this technology to gain a new lease on life, but the cost is that he must absorb others' lives to sustain his own. After going through superhero training, Rick reluctantly begins his journey as a city hero, and a showdown with the villain known as 'Sands' is inevitable...
