On an ordinary night in 2015, the electronic screens on the streets and the large screens on building façades in Taiwan suddenly displayed the purple word "explosion," a phenomenon referred to as "purple explosion" that is often discussed in online forums — occurring when more than 90% of users congregate on a single board. The police intervened and initially determined that this was a case of commercial crimes involving a reporter from a certain newspaper, Lan Yiqing (played by Guo Xuefu), and a well-known hacker named King (played by Chen Bolin). However, Lan Yiqing told the police that everything stemmed from a hacking war on BBS — the largest online forum in Taiwan. Years ago, during a hacking war, only two hackers were left: King and Mimic (played by Xiu Jiekai). Mimic desperately attacked King's computer, but King won in just one second. Mimic has always been haunted by this defeat. He used his hacking skills to meticulously plan a war on the BBS forum. King is portrayed as the instigator of this chaos and is suspected of seeking revenge against his ex-girlfriend, Xiang (played by Chen Yihan). While everyone's attention is focused on BBS, in the real world, Xiang is suffering from a terminal illness and being relentlessly hunted by internet users. The overwhelming insults and unidentifiable phone calls push Xiang to the brink of collapse. To clear his name and save the girl he loves, King formally declared war on Mimic.
