The story takes place in 2029, when Japan is plunged into chaos after being attacked by a virus and is taken over by a violent organization known as "GHQ", with the government gradually becoming a puppet. In such a tumultuous environment, Sakura Maki (voiced by Yuuki Kaji) is just an ordinary high school student, living his simple life until a girl named Inori Yuzuriha (voiced by Ai Kayano) appears before him. Inori's true identity is a member of "Funeral Society", a group that is engaged in dangerous and brutal warfare to reclaim Japan's autonomy from GHQ. Under the guidance of the organization's leader, Hishigami Ayaka (voiced by Yuichi Nakamura), Maki becomes a member of the organization and meets colleagues like Ayase Shino (voiced by Kana Hanazawa) and Daitsu (voiced by Ayana Taketatsu). As the battles escalate, various signs suggest that Maki seems to possess mysterious powers, but what kind of powerful entity lurks behind many enemies remains unknown to everyone...
