Hinamizawa is a secluded village nestled among the mountains, where the simplicity of the local customs has allowed this ancient village to preserve the ancestral worship traditions known as the Mionryu. One summer in Showa year 58, a new resident arrived in the village: a young man named Keiichi Maebara (voiced by Sōichirō Hoshi). The new environment was a bit difficult for Keiichi to adapt to, but after getting to know the gentle Mion Sonozaki (voiced by Mai Nakahara), the lively Rika Furude (voiced by Yukino Satsuki), the frail-looking yet strong-willed Satoko Houjou (voiced by Michika Kanai), and Rika Furude (voiced by Yurika Tamura), his new life quickly began to unfold vigorously. As time went on, the annual Mionryu festival was about to begin. However, amidst the festivities, Keiichi heard some of Hinamizawa's hidden past and the terrifying events referred to as 'Kaminomi' that have resulted in one person going missing and another dying during the Mionryu festivals throughout the years. Are these rumors true or false? Is the past joyfully simple life real or just an illusion? As an 'outsider', Keiichi Maebara unexpectedly found himself getting closer to the truth of a significant event.
