Yato (voiced by Hiroshi Kamya) is a homeless god, working odd jobs and wearing sportswear. He lacks a shrine for worship and his divine apparatus is eager to quit, yet he harbors a grand dream of being 'adored by all people.' For a fee of five yen, he takes on various commissions, ranging from slaying monsters to cleaning houses. Thus, Yato traverses between the mortal realm and the afterlife, living among the eight million gods, their divine tools, humans, and spirits in this bizarre world. One day, a regular middle school girl, Hiyori Iki (voiced by Maaya Uchida), accidentally bonds with Yato, which results in her developing a strange condition - her soul and body can easily separate. Hiyori asks Yato to solve her issue, but he is troubled by the fact that he lacks a 'divine tool.' Soon, the divine tool destined for Yato appears, and he names it Yukine (voiced by Yuki Kaji)...
