In this world, there exist humans who can achieve immortality, able to recover quickly even from fatal injuries. These people are referred to as 'Ajin'. Nagai Kei (voiced by Mamoru Miyano) is an ordinary high school student, and one day, a car accident exposes his identity as an Ajin. He is soon wanted at a high price by the government. With the help of his former friend Kaito (voiced by Yoshimasa Hosoya), Nagai Kei embarks on an endless path of escape. Along the way, he meets another Ajin, Sato (voiced by Yoshitatsu Shimamura), who wants to recruit Nagai Kei into his secretly formed Ajin group. However, the sensitive Nagai Kei uncovers Sato's deeply hidden true self and motives. The Ajin have been persecuted and subjected to cruel experiments by the government, so Sato attempts a series of terrorist attacks to reclaim the rights of the Ajin. Nagai Kei, on the other hand, aligns himself with the Ajin Management Committee's Togusa (voiced by Takahiro Sakurai) to fight against the powerful Sato. A war filled with smoke and blood between Ajin and humans is about to begin.
