The Forest Guardian, a young girl named Mary Katherine "M.K." (voiced by Amanda Seyfried), has just lost her mother and arrives by taxi at a secluded and nearly isolated forest. Her father, a scientist who firmly believes in the existence of a race of tiny creatures living in the forest, sacrificed his family and marriage to find these little beings. The day Mary arrives happens to be both the Summer Solstice and a full moon, a special event that occurs once every hundred years. Queen Tara (voiced by Beyoncé Knowles), the guardian of the lush and peaceful forest, will choose an heir on this day. However, their arch-enemies, the Boggans, are plotting to prevent the heir's birth in order to spread decay and death throughout every corner of the forest. Not believing her father's claims, Mary unexpectedly gets caught up in the struggle for survival between the two races of tiny creatures, and along with several brave warriors of the forest guardians, she takes on the responsibility of protecting the forest...
