The shop's star girl, Yaeko (nicknamed Yakko), lives with her father, who is an Edo-style light master, and is a dutiful daughter who helps in the store during the day and attends high school at night. Next door, in an apartment, lives a pair of brothers; Tsuyoshi is a college student with mesh hair, and Hashizo is a five-year-old boy with blue curls, and they have a fat cat named Giuliano. One day, Hashizo and Giuliano went to Asahiyama, the town they had just been warned not to visit, but they got lost and ended up caught in the rain. At that moment, Yakko was chatting intimately with a college student named Sato, who had dyed a customer's hair purple in the shop. Yakko's father shouted at her, 'Watch out for cars and men!' and sent her out to buy ingredients. He then encountered Hashizo and Giuliano, who were seeking shelter from the rain under a drainage pipe at a construction site. Because of Yakko's kindness, Hashizo completely fell in love with her. Sato and Mizuki, who were both dyeing hair, are best friends attending the same university, and they formed a rock band to work part-time. When Yakko returned to the shop with Hashizo and Giuliano, Yakko's father heard their life stories and was very moved, so he made a point to help them, and they became good friends. One evening, after the rain had stopped, Yakko brought Hashizo and Giuliano back to their apartment but realized she was going to be late for school, so she hurriedly left.
