City girl Anna (played by Amy Adams) has been in a relationship with her boyfriend Jeremy (played by Adam Scott) for four years, and they are applying together to buy a luxury home in Boston's top community. Anna thought Jeremy was going to propose to her, but after feeling disappointed, she followed her father's advice and flew to Dublin, the capital of Ireland. She planned to propose to Jeremy, who was attending a medical conference in Dublin, following the Irish tradition of proposing on February 29th in a leap year. However, the plane encountered turbulence and made an emergency landing in Cardiff, Wales. Anna hired a boat from Cardiff to cross to the Dingle Peninsula in Ireland and ended up staying at a seaside inn run by a local young man named Declan (played by Matthew Goode). Declan agreed to drive Anna to Dublin the next day, but they were at odds with each other, constantly arguing. During their disputes, they faced a series of hilarious events, including a broken-down car, torrential rain, delays, and pretending to be a married couple while staying at a farmhouse. Yet, amidst their constant bickering, they began to understand each other better, and feelings started to develop. Finally, February 29th arrives; with whom will Anna's heart ultimately be entrusted?
