'Rainbow Squad' can be considered the gay version of 'Léon: The Professional.' Director Srdan Dragojevic is one of the most renowned directors from the former Yugoslavia. In 2001, he personally witnessed the brutal anti-gay violence that overshadowed Serbia's first pride parade, which inspired him to make this film. The film combines dark humor with intense fight scenes and became the highest-grossing film in the former Yugoslav countries after its release in November 2011, earning excellent reviews throughout the Balkans. It also won the Audience Award in the Panorama section at the 62nd Berlin Film Festival in 2012 and the Teddy Award for Best Feature.
