In 1959, Che Guevara (played by Benicio Del Toro) and Fidel Castro (played by Rodrigo Santoro) led the guerrilla organization '26th of July Movement' to finally overthrow Batista's regime and establish a new government in Cuba. However, over time, Che and Fidel gradually developed differences in their governance philosophies, and ultimately, he resigned from key positions in the government, renouncing his family and Cuban citizenship to once again engage in the war for the liberation of the Third World. After several twists and turns, Che arrived in Bolivia, where he joined the Bolivian National Liberation Army to launch a guerrilla revolutionary movement. Upon learning of Che's arrival, Bolivian President René Barrientos (played by Joaquim de Almeida) decided to eliminate this troublesome revolutionary at any cost. To accurately and authentically portray the revolutionary years of Che Guevara, renowned American Hollywood director Steven Soderbergh took 4 hours to depict this legendary hero. Ultimately, for theatrical release needs, the film was split into two parts. The film won the Best Actor award at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival and received a nomination for the Palme d'Or.
