On a quiet morning in Philadelphia, former UN investigator Gerry Lane (played by Brad Pitt) drives his wife Karen (played by Mireille Enos) and their two daughters, Rachel (Abigail Hargrove) and Connie (Sterling Jerins), out. However, the happy atmosphere quickly turns into panic and death as a series of explosions, a terrified fleeing crowd, chaotic car crashes, and zombies attacking people transform the bustling metropolis into chaos. Gerry struggles valiantly to escape with his wife and daughters, eventually making it to an aircraft carrier where the Deputy Secretary-General of the UN is located, only to learn that several world leaders, including the President of the United States, have died and the zombie virus has spread globally. To prevent the world's destruction, Gerry is reluctantly tasked, alongside Harvard virologist Dr. Fassbach (Elyes Gabel), to head to the origin of the virus in search of a solution to the crisis. This is a nearly hopeless and arduous journey, with the fate of the world hanging by a thread...
