The story is adapted from the fifty-seventh episode of "Journey to the West," titled "The True and False Sun Wukong." It tells of how Sun Wukong fell into the trap of the Yellow-browed Monster and was imprisoned in a mysterious cave, losing all his powers and having his golden staff confiscated. The Yellow-browed Monster established a formidable army in this cave, which was hard to shake, imprisoning various demons, and with the help of the powerful warrior Niu Mo Wang, set up a life-and-death arena where lesser demons fought to the death. The souls of the dead were then taken away to channel their powers into the creation of a six-eared macaque, attempting to replace the real Sun Wukong. The cave turned into a brutal battlefield. The six-eared macaque disguised itself as a monkey from Flower-Fruit Mountain and spent every day with Sun Wukong. During his time in the cave, Sun Wukong suffered great oppression and once fell into despair. Accustomed to fighting alone, he was forced to join forces with other demons for survival. Through repeated failures, he gradually understood the true meaning of the title "Great Sage." In the end, Sun Wukong, having had his stone heart taken away, was reborn and fought to the death against the Yellow-browed Monster, leading everyone to escape the cave.
